Taste of Cincinnati
The P&G Taste of Cincinnati USA, presented by Time Warner Cable and Miller Lite, is the city’s showcase of music and food and the region’s annual kickoff to summer. Taste features approximately 45 area restaurants, more than 60 musical acts and approximately 500,000 grazing gourmets in attendance. Taste of Cincinnati USA will ladle up the food, fun and festivities on Memorial Day weekend: Saturday and Sunday from noon to midnight, and Monday, from noon to 9 p.m. Admission to Taste of Cincinnati USA is free. For more information, visit this Web site, follow our fan page on Facebook and follow www.Twitter.com/CincinnatiParty.
New this year at Taste is the Time Warner Cable’s People’s Choice Awards, which lets the 500,000 festival-goers decide which local dish packs the most punch. Each restaurant will submit one item off their menu to the contest, and samplers will choose a winner by tossing money in the bucket of their favorites over the course of the weekend. The menu item that’s accumulated the most cash by the end of the weekend will be crowned the People’s Choice Best Dish of 2011. First and second runners-up will be granted the People’s Choice Award of Excellence and the People’s Choice Award of Merit, respectively. All proceeds from the contest will be donated to the Freestore Foodbank, making sampling the entries a good-tasting and generous way to experience P&G Taste of Cincinnati USA in 2011.
Another new addition to Taste 2011 is Dancing with the Stars’ Mark Ballas, who will perform on the Metromix stage on Saturday, May 28 at 5:30 pm. Ballas is an eight season veteran of the wildly popular dance reality show and has performed with celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Shannen Doherty and Bristol Palin. He has won the show twice, in 2008 with Kristi Yamaguchi and in 2009 with Shawn Johnson. Ballas also released a new music album in April, HurtLoveBox, and will be showcasing his singing, songwriting and performing talents for festival-goers to jam and jive to while they enjoy P&G Taste of Cincinnati USA’s delectable bites.
To accompany all the mouth-watering menu items available on the streets of downtown Cincinnati, this year’s festival will also offer beer and wine taste-ings on Fountain Square. Beer taste-ing will be on Saturday and Sunday from 4 – 5 pm, and wine taste-ing on Saturday and Sunday from 6 – 7 pm. Guests can grab a seat in prime Fountain Square location with a great view of the stage and sip away to wash down the fare they’ve sampled. The cost is $15 per person, or 2 people for $25, which includes a souvenir wine glass or beer pint.
P&G’s Bounty will be providing napkins and napkin holders for the tables at Taste, so you never have to be without, and the P&G Quicker Picker-Uppers will return this year, ensuring each table is tidy and ready for the next guests to use.
Of course festival-goers can look forward to their favorite things that will return for this year’s Taste, first and foremost the fantastic fare from 40 area restaurants. Strolling down 5th street guests can taste their favorite Cincinnati foods as well as try dishes from newcomers. Stand-up comedy performances will also make a repeat appearance, which provide a great way to get your laughs and shake off the work week, and can be found on Saturday and Sunday night from 9 – 10 pm. A Memorial Day remembrance on Monday will be held again this year to honor veterans.
With all our favorite parts returning as well as new events and features being added, P&G Taste of Cincinnati USA 2011 is sure to be the best festival yet, giving Cincinnatians and visitors alike a holiday weekend to savor. This event is presented by Time Warner Cable and Miller Lite.
